Vegan margherita pizza recipe

Vegan, gluten-free, wheat-free, egg-free

Ever since enjoying a vegan margherita at Pizza Express, I am just obsessed and had to make a pizza at home I could enjoy whenever.

This pizza is absolutely scrumptious. It has a perfect base, with a delicious tomato sauce topped off with vegan mozzarella cheese, basil, tomato and homemade garlic oil.
The vegan cheeses I used are
-MozzaRisella vegan mozzarella
-Cheezly cheddar style cheese
They are 2 of the best vegan cheeses I have tried out so far.


Preparation- 5 minutes
Cooking time- 8-10 minutes
Makes- 2 pizzas
Level- Medium

Ingredients for the base
-300g of plain flour (I use gluten-free)
-1 teaspoon of yeast powder
-1 teaspoon of salt
-200ml of warm water
-1 & 1/2 tablespoons of oil (I use light olive oil)

Ingredients for the tomato sauce
-1 carton of tomato
-2 garlic cloves
-2 tablespoons of tomato puree

Toppings (optional)
-Vegan mozzarella cheese (I use MozzaRisella)
-Cheezly cheddar style cheese
-Pinch of chilli flakes
-Pinch of black pepper
-Fresh basil leaves
-Large tomato (finely sliced)
-Garlic Oil (Recipe below)

To make the base
Step 1- Mix the flour, yeast and salt in a bowl and combine.
Step 2- Add the water and oil and mix until a wet dough forms.
Step 3- Place the dough onto a floured surface and knead for around 5 minutes then pop the dough into a bowl, cover with a towel and allow to rise for around 10 minutes as it's a thin crust.
Step 4- Cut the dough into 2 separate balls and place onto a floured surface.

Step 5- Roll out the dough until very thin and place onto a pizza tray and brush some oil around the rim of the base. 

To make the tomato sauce
Step 1- Preheat the oven to 180 degrees c.

Step 2- Place the carton of tomatoes, garlic cloves and tomato puree into a food processor/blender and mix on high until smooth.
Step 3- Spoon the sauce onto the pizzas and spread out with the back of a spoon.

Step 4- Top off with dairy-free finely sliced mozzarella cheese and grated cheddar cheese, along with some chopped tomatoes, basil leaves, chilli flakes and pepper.
Pop into the oven and cook for 8-10 minutes.
Serve warm with some fresh basil leaves and garlic oil (optional)

To make garlic oil
Step 1- Place 50ml of oil into a bowl or bottle and add in around 3-4 large chopped garlic cloves.
Leave to infuse and serve & drizzle over the pizzas.


Best enjoyed fresh, the day of making!!!
