The Snowman Hot Chocolate Bomb recipe

The Snowman and The Snowdog is my all-time favourite Christmas movie.

Watch me make this ‘The Snowman’ hot chocolate bomb here.

This is my first Christmas without Tiggy (my 18-year-old cat and best friend) this year and I wanted to make something to honour him. Every year we’d snuggle on the couch under his blanket and watch it together, it means so much to me, so it was a pleasure to make these delicious chocolaty drinks!

The Story behind ‘The Snowman and Snowdog’ reminds me of me and Tiggy and is just so magical and sweet, kinda like these chocolate bombs- haha!

Check out my previous hot chocolate bomb here. It’s RUDOLPH!

This hot chocolate bomb contains a dairy-free chocolate sphere, vegan marshmallows, edible glitter, vegan Horlicks.

I decided to opt for vegan Horlicks malt powder as opposed to instant hot chocolate powder to keep with the ‘white, snowy theme’, but you’re more than welcome to substitute the malt power with your favourite dairy-free hot chocolate if you fancy.

In order to make these Snowman Hot Chocolate bombs, you’ll need a few things:

A silicone dome mould

Food grade brushes

-Dairy-free white + dark chocolate

-Red + Green food gel

-Vegan Marshmallows

-Hot chocolate poder or Vegan Horlicks Malt powder

Edible silver glitter(optional)

-Dairy-free milk to serve

All you’ll need to melt these delicious balls of chocolaty goodness is some hot dairy-free milk. I like oat milk as it’s thicker and creamier, perfect for making the most luxurious and festive drink! Almond and soya will work perfectly too!

Method (chocolate bombs)

1. Fill a small saucepan 3/4 full with water and place onto the hob over low/ medium heat.

Finely chop the white chocolate and place 3/4 of it into a heatproof bowl. Place the bowl on top of the saucepan and allow to melt. You’ll need the other 1/4 of the chocolate to temper it.

You’ll want to temper this chocolate. Check out this amazing tutorial on how to temper chocolate.

2. Take out 4 tablepoons of the melted chocolate and add 2 tablespoons into one bowl, and the other two into another seperate bowl. Colour one with green food gel and the other with orange food gel.

Add the coloured chocolate into separate, small piping bags fitted with a small round tip nozzles. You can also snip off the end of your piping bag.

3. On greaseproof paper, pipe a round orange nose, and green snowman hat (as seen in the photos).

Allow them to set.

If its too hard/set, re-melt with some coconut oil to bring it to a runnier consistency which is easier to work with.

White chocolate is alittle trickeir to work with, so if it does go hard or set at anytime, add in a little bit of coconut oil and heat until smooth again.

Set aside or place into the freezer.

4. Using a food-grade brush, brush a thin layer of tempered white chocolate into silicone moulds then place into the freezer for 5 minutes.

Paint a second coat of chocolate over the first, making sure it’s thick and covers any gaps or holes. Be quick, as the second coat will set faily fast. Pop into the freezer for 5 minutes.

White chocolate is thinner than dark, so make sure the layers are quite thick.

5. Remove the chocolate spheres out of the moulds, they’ll be shiny and firm to touch and place them onto a clean work surface.

Fill half of the spheres with 2 teaspoons of Horlicks malt power or instant hot chocolate powder and a small handful of mini vegan marshmallows.

Optional: Add in a 1/4 teaspoon of edible silver glitter (magic).

6. Pipe some melted chocolate around the rim of the chocolate spheres and attach the second sphere on top, pressing together gently to seal in the fillings.

7. Melt the dairy-free dark chocolate, and temper it. (Link to temper chocolate is in step 1).

8. Add a dot of melted chocolate in the middle of the chocolate bomb and press on the orange nose.

Pipe some melted chocolate on the back of the green hat and press onto the top of the chocolate bomb.

9. Add the eyes and mouth, by piping two dots of melted dark chocolate either side of the nose and a line for the mouth (as seen in the photos).

You can decorate them with a sprinkle of edible silver glitter, optional but it gives a nice, festive touch.

10. Place as much dairy-free milk into a saucepan as you like and bring to a low boil.

11. Pour the hot dairy-free milk into heatproof mugs and drop in the chocolate bomb, watch it explode with marshmallows and Horlicks or hot chocolate powder.

Stir with a spoon, or go all out and use a candy cane. It adds a peppermint flavour too!

Store the chocolate bombs in the fridge.
